2025 Homestead Exemption Reminder
April 1st is the Filing Deadline.
Georgia Homeowners, don’t be fooled into thinking you have all year to file a 2025 Homestead Exemption. The Chatham County deadline to complete the application with your County Tax Accessor’s office is April 1st.
If you bought a home in 2024 and it is your primary residence or you made a prior owned property your primary residence, you are eligible for significant savings on your property tax bill. Establishing your home as your primary address also establishes a Stephens Day Exemption Value. This designation stabilizes your assessed value at the purchased price. Homeowners only have to file a Homestead Exemption once to benefit from these tax saving strategies.
Homeowners that reside in Bryan, Bulloch, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, and Tattnall Counties also have the opportunity to file a Homestead Exemption with your county tax assessor’s office.
